Helping your child study in the UK is one of the most rewarding investments you can make, but as a parent, you’re probably wondering how you can best support them and make sure that they are safe while they are studying in a foreign country.
As a parent, your involvement and support are going to make a huge difference when it comes to your child’s future success and experience during their studies, and you’re not alone. At AHZ, we’ve helped families from all around the world navigate university applications, Student visa requirements, and financial planning, completely for free.
Whether you're budgeting for tuition fees of £10,000–£38,000 per year or trying to understand UCAS deadlines, our team of registered counsellors is here to guide you every step of the way.
UCAS (the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service) is the UK’s main platform for university applications, and the majority of applications are made this way, even for international students.
When applying through UCAS, your child will need to include:
As a parent, you can help by gathering academic transcripts, checking English language test requirements (most courses require IELTS 6.0–7.0), and reviewing the new structured personal statement format launching in 2026.
Your child will also have to write a convincing personal statement. It’s important to note that UCAS has recently said that they will be changing this process from 2026 onwards.
By this, they mean that the personal statement will no longer be a long body of text about the applicant's grades, goals and achievements. Instead, it will be structured into 3 different sections, each with its own question, and it is still expected to be around 4000 words long.
The aim of this is to help guide the applicant as they are writing their personal statement in a more structured way, but the contents of the personal statement will stay mostly the same. We understand that writing a personal statement can feel quite overwhelming for both you and your child. This is why our counsellors are available to help with this, guiding you both through the process and reviewing your work with expert feedback to help create a personal statement that is the best possible representation of your child and their potential.
UK university tuition for international students typically ranges from £10,000 to £38,000 per year, with living costs averaging £8,000–£10,000 outside London and £12,000–£15,000 in London.
Many universities offer international scholarships worth £2,000–£10,000, and our counsellors can identify funding opportunities specific to your child's nationality and chosen course.
Remember, if you need any assistance finding scholarships, planning finances or even just to ask some questions, you can book a free consultation to receive a personalised cost breakdown and scholarship shortlist."
